Saw this in person at the Field Museum in Chicago. Nikki was going to meet me close by (she lives in Indiana), then we were going to go up together and be goofy and laugh and enjoy the whole day. We haven't seen each other in at least two years, probably more.

Unfortunately, she had a bit of car trouble, and had to go back home. Turned out it was just a short in her dash. She was bummed...her husband, Brian felt bad (thanks for helping, Brian), and it wasn't the same without her. I left not soon after..feeling tired, a bit depressed that I was there and she wasn't, and all the school kids were driving me crazy.

Anyway, we WILL get together sometime in the near future, Nik...I miss you too, darlin.'

Ok...I admit it...I miss my cable....I miss...my Law and Order...practically whenever I want it...

I miss...Everybody Loves Raymond...three solid hours of it on Wednesdays on TBS...

I miss...ER..for two hours on Saturday afternoon, or Sunday in the late evening.

I miss...National Geographic...UPN..or whatever it's called now,,,cause that's where Supernatural is...and I can't even get THAT on my bunny ears...

The Sci Fi channel...even tho they make crappy movies...sometimes they do good...Ghost Hunters...OH GOD!! I didn't realize how much I loved that show...until I can't watch it anymore.

Is there a patch out there? A little T.V. shaped patch that emits little tiny waves of I Love Lucy and WKRP for withdrawal symptoms?

I can't even get a dish because of that damn tree in the neighbor's yard...which happens to be in the ONLY direction the satellite's are in (that's what I've been told). Cable's too friggin expensive right now, unless, of course I go on welfare...then I could get it.

I can't read because I get sleepy...I actually tried it once...in broad daylight...I was out in fifteen minutes.

Life can really bite sometimes...

Halloween is almost here, so after you've gone out trick or treating (c'mon, you know you do it...), you should get comfortable and munch the stuff you got while watching a great horror movie (notice I didn't say gore...there's a difference); they're fun AND you feel better about your life because you realize that it could be worse...

PHANTOMS...based on the book by Dean Koontz, he also produced it (can't remember if he wrote it), but it's very scary..

THE SHINING...no need to tell you who wrote this one. The original, of course. The wife is annoying, and you wish someone would kill her, but Jack Nicholson steals it. The music is very creepy, too.

HALLOWEEN...the classic that can still give you a start, altho the guys tend to like the boobie shots (imagine that).

THE THING...the one by John Carpenter, with Kurt Russell...NOT the original.

DEAD BIRDS...one I found by accident...will have you looking under your bed...then again...maybe not...just run for it.

SHAUN OF THE DEAD...funny AND creepy...and yes, it has your high doses of gore...it should, it's a zombie movie, but very fun to watch.

SESSION 9...one of the scariest movies I've ever seen...what is it about people that go into dark places, anyway??

RACE WITH THE DEVIL...this dates me...from the 70's...but I remember how spooky it was...two couples in an RV being chased by satanists...

ROSEMARY'S BABY...just watched this again last week...never trust your neighbors.

So now you know you guys gotta tell me some of your favorites..

Dear welfare scammers next door....

...your dog, the one you decided to keep when you got rid of it's sibling (God only knows where) has some sort of infection in it's lungs...you can hear it whenever it barks...which is all the time. But that's ok, because your record for stiffing the vet every time you went to one, and how it's more important to have a cell phone than get rid of the cock roaches in your house, AND the fact you never have the right shots for the animals, much less proper housing and feeding, tells me this dog is history.

Dear politicians running for office....

...Illinois has become known for being one of the most corrupt states in the Union...the two people running for our next governor are both bad news, and many of the local candidates are just scary. Could you possibly give us a kiss before you screw us this time?

Dear lab that decided to hire two OTHER people instead of me....

...sure, they may be younger and have more degrees than I do, but where's the experience? Think about that when one of 'em screws something up.

Dear weatherman....

...snow this Thursday?? Bring it on, baby!!

Dear MSN....your LIVE SEARCH sucks!!!

One of the coolest westerns...about the James-Younger gang...music by Ry Cooder...the Keachs and the Carradines, the Quaids and the Guests (yes, THAT Guest) all play the different groups of brothers....and the last robbery gone bad, in Northfield, Minnesota (I read you can still see the bullet holes in the walls), is very cool to watch...

Creve Coeur, East Peoria High School are mourning best friends who were killed just a day apart in Iraq

...both just twenty years old, not yet old enough to legally drink in Illinois, but they could carry a gun and fight in a war. They weren't even in the same place.

...how fucking stupid is that? Two kids who were best friends since childhood, are now dead, killed a day apart.

...two kids who expected to come back and maybe go to school or find a job, get married one day and raise children, are dead.

...two kids who were probably scared to death going over, told it was their duty and took up that fight while being so scared; two kids who were in the marching band together at school, had families that loved them, friends that loved them, maybe a favorite pet, a favorite sport, loved music and had a favorite television show, are dead.

It's a beautiful night out tonight, only these two young men will never see that again. Their parents can't enjoy it because now they have two children to bury.

This war sucks...but we're in it...and we need to support everyone who's over there. So if you've lost someone and you think it's your life's work to protest against it, if you're a selfish, ignorant homophobe who think's it's God's will to protest at a soldier's funeral, if you think all war is terrible and they deserve what they get, please just go away. We are not stupid; we know all about freedom of speech and freedom to bare arms. STOP ABUSING THEM.

Maybe if every single person in this country, no matter how much they hated this war, showed our soldiers the respect and support they deserve, this terrible thing would end a lot quicker.

Get off the box, stop embarrassing your country.

...I took the dogs out tonight for a short walk, and walking along the dark road with the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot made me think of "To Kill A Mockingbird."

...I always loved that movie. I remember watching and being just a bit scared, but unable to stop watching, especially when Atticus Finch went out to shoot the rabid dog (so THAT'S what they look like!) and when Scout was in her Halloween costume and someone grabbed her. Filmed in black and white made it seem even more frightening.

...One day I'm going to read the book, but until then I think I'll pop it in the player and cozy up to a hot cup of tea...

...Comfort food for the imagination...
